The obesity problem is finally getting the attention it deserves.
It was recently disclosed that obesity might soon overtake smoking as the number 1 preventable cause of death in America . Continued physical inactivity and horrible eating habits is the driving force for these findings. With the current trend, by next year there may be 500,000 deaths annually due to obesity.
Obese individuals are more likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, and diabetes-all very debilitating and costly diseases. Other fat associated illness and conditions include:
- High blood pressure
- Sleep apnea
- Complications of pregnancy
- Poor reproductive health
- Psychological disorders
In 1990, 60% of American adults were either overweight or obese, compared to 64% in 2000.
These is no magic cure for all of these problems, and you have probably heard them before, BUT I''ll list suggestions here:
- Reduce the amount of carbohydrates you eat, such as breads, pastas, rice, and potatoes
- Reduce or cut out deserts all together
- Exercise 30-45 minutes 4-5 x per week
- Eat smaller portions
- Limit alcohol consumption
There are many diet plans available for you to read and follow. The bottom line is that you need to personally become motivated to change your way of life, and realize that many of the deceases listed above are associated with a slow and horrible death.
