Richard A. Friedman, M.D.

In a recent issue of New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Friedman writes about "The Changing Face of Teenage Drug Abuse-The Trend Toward Prescription Drugs". Dr. Friedman is a psychiatrist and Director of the Pharmacology Clinic at Weil Cornell Medical College, New York.

While the use of illegal drugs is down in teens, there is an alarming rise in prescription drug abuse.  In many situations, teens obtain these drugs from their parent medicine cabinet, or worse, from a friends parent.  Physicians, parents, and teachers need to learn to spot signs of substance abuse. Education is key to controlling this problem.
