New Hepatitis C Therapy: Paul Kwo, M.D.

Paul Kwo, M.D. from Indiana University, will be joining Dr. Galati to discuss advances in chronic hepatitis C. This past week, and article in the British medical journal, Lancet, published and article on new advances in the therapy of hepatitis C. Dr. Kwo was the lead aurthor in this publication. Dr. Galati was a contributing author and researcher in the study, along with Dr. Kwo.

Hepatitis C is an infection caused by a virus that attacks the liver and leads to inflammation. Most people infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) have no symptoms. In fact, most people don't know they have the hepatitis C infection until liver damage shows up, decades later, during routine medical tests.

Hepatitis C is one of several hepatitis viruses and is generally considered to be among the most serious of these viruses. Hepatitis C is passed through contact with contaminated blood — most commonly through needles shared during illegal drug use.

There are over 4 million american with hepatitis C. If you have any risk factors for hepatitis C, you need to get screened regardless of how you feel or your lab test results.
